Workers' comp and benefits for Florida crews

Get your crew covered through a Florida-licensed PEO. Comp is billed with each payroll instead of a big deposit up front, and your best people get real health insurance.

Free, no obligation to switch. We don't place roofing or tree-service accounts.

Florida's comp rules land hardest on small crews

Construction has the strictest rules in the state, and the inspectors know where to look.

  1. 1 employee

Coverage starts with your first hire. In construction, comp is required once you have one employee, and owners count unless they've filed for an exemption. Most other businesses get to four employees first.

  2. 3 owners

Only three can be exempt. In construction, up to three corporate officers or LLC members who each own at least 10% can opt out. Everyone else on payroll has to be covered.

  3. $1,000 a day

Stop-work orders are expensive. The state can shut a job down when coverage is missing. Working through the order costs $1,000 a day, on top of a penalty of twice the premium you should have paid over the past 12 months.

  4. Your subs

Uncovered subs become your problem. If a subcontractor doesn't carry comp, Florida law makes you responsible for covering their workers on your job.

How a quote works

You don't need documents to start. We ask for them once there's a number worth looking at.

  1. Tell us about your crew

Trade, headcount, rough payroll, and what you pay for comp now. It takes about five minutes.

  2. We shop it

We take your details to Florida-licensed PEO partners that write your trade and get real numbers back.

  3. You compare and decide

You get the quote side by side with your current costs. If it isn't better, you keep what you have.

Trades we quote

Ground-level construction and field-service crews. Class codes are the usual ones for each trade; the carrier sets your final code.

We don't place roofing or tree-service accounts. Our PEO partners don't write roofing, tree work, or utility pole work.

Benefits that keep your good people

A licensed tech or a lead who can run a job without you is hard to replace. The big outfits keep them with health insurance. Through a PEO, a ten-person crew can offer the same kind of plan.

How benefits work through a PEO

  • Medical, dental, and vision plans
  • 401(k) with payroll deductions handled for you
  • Life and disability options
  • You choose how much of the premium you pay
  • Deductions and enrollment run through payroll

Common questions

How much does it cost?

It depends on your trade, your payroll, and your claims history, so there's no honest flat number. PEOs usually price workers' comp and their service together as one rate on payroll. We get the numbers from our PEO partners and put them next to what you pay now, so you can see the difference in dollars.

Do I have to switch payroll to get comp this way?

Yes. With a PEO, comp is billed through payroll, so the PEO runs your payroll too. Most owners find that's a relief: paychecks, payroll taxes, W-2s, and comp all come from one place.

Do you work with roofers or tree services?

No. Our PEO partners don't take crews that work on roofs or in trees, so we don't quote those accounts.

How fast will I hear back?

Within one business day of your request. A full quote usually needs your current declarations page and loss runs, and we'll tell you exactly what to send.
